Ct De Stirum, Bn de Pallandt, C. des Graz. Mr Woodward elected monthly member.

February 19, 1894

Committee meeting, all present except Bn de Brienen.

House.
Ct de Stirum had seen 2 architects who both charged more than money subscribed.
Decided that M. Clifford and Ct de Stirum should see architects abandoning idea of house constructed on plan formerly prepared and giving measurements for rooms somewhat similar to those of rooms in present house, should obtain estimates not to exceed 1500 florins.
Question of arranging and making greens brought forward by Bn Groeninx. Decided that 400 fl. should be allowed for the purpose to a sub committee consisting of Bns Groeninx, T. de Pallandt and R. de Tuyll.

March 5, 1894

Committee meeting, present Bns Groeninx, de Pallandt, de Wassenaer, Ct. de Stirum, Messrs Clifford and des Graz.

Question discussed – refusal of farmer, renting Ct C. de Bylandt’s field over which club has been playing, to allow greens to be made or the club to use ground without payment.
Reference made to Committee meeting minutes of October 4.

Mr. Clifford interviewed farmer before meeting whose “last word” was 150 fl. for a piece on which 2 holes could be placed. Mr Clifford expressed regret at having failed to obtain lease or agreement as requested on October 4 and Committee was of opinion that it would have made no difference, also that sum of 10 or 12 fl. mentioned at that meeting was inadequate, a valuation having been made by a third party putting value of damage yearly at about 100 fl.

Decided that ground was essential to course though, if obtainable, a return to Bn de Brienen’s ground could always be effected.
Decided that Messrs Clifford and de Stirum should see farmer and be empowered to offer 100 fl. a year rising to limit of fl. 150 if necessary to secure, if possible, 5 years lease of ground, it being optional for club to give years notice.

Further decided that Committee should examine old ground with a view to possibility of making the 9 holes on dry parts of it tomorrow morning before “starting” negotiations with farmer.
Elected Monsieur, Madame and Mlle Labouret prososed by Mr. des Graz.

March 6, 1894

Committee [meeting], (same as above) met on golf ground where difficulty of making a 9 hole course on old ground apparent.
Mme de Pallandt, de Wassenaer authorized to interview farmer with result that lease of land whole field for 110 fl. yearly was accepted by farmer and Committee.

Bn. de Wassenaer kindly consented to draw up form of agreement to be signed by farmer. Giving lease of land to blub, at above price and reserving farmer’s right to put cattle on ground, for as long as club existed or desired use of land in question.

March 21, 1894

Committee meeting, [present] Bn de Brienen, Messrs Clifford and des Graz. Ct. Schwerin and Bn Braun annual members elected.

April 6, 1894

Committee meeting, present all except Bn Groeninx.

Mr. Clifford produced a plan for a house; which would cost 2000 fl. to build, adopting the most economical methods. He had assured himself that it was impossible to build the sort of four or five roomed house considered suitable for a club house for the sum of 1500 florins.

After examining and approving the plan and thanking Mr. Clifford for the great trouble he had taken, it was decided that the idea of building had to be abandoned until the remaining 500 fl. wanted were subscribed.
The Committee to endeavor to procure these 10 extra subscriptions.

Mme H. Clifford, Marquize Malaspina and Mr W. Röell elected members of the club.

Committee meeting present Bn de Brienen and de Pallandt, Messrs Clifford and des Graz.
Offer made by Bsse. de Brienen to build suitable house for club, on payment of yearly rent of 200 fl. house to be taken for 3 years.

Decided, after consultation with Treasurer to accept offer on following conditions.

  1. Lease to be taken year by year only. 100 fl. rent for end of this year.

  2. Repairs, insurance etc. to be undertaken by Mme de Brienen.

An extra sum for enclosing greens 2 and 8 approved of.
Bsse de Brienen informed of acceptance of offer on above terms. Bn and Bsse F. de Tuyll and M. Seydoux elected member of club.
